Kentucky Officer Critically Wounded, Three Charged in Shooting

Kentucky State Police said Richmond, KY, Police Officer Daniel Ellis was shot while investigating a robbery on Wednesday morning, and now three people are under arrest. Officer Ellis was taken to UK Hospital with life threatening injuries, with a police escort, after the shooting, reports WLEX.

According to KSP, Officer Ellis was shot at an apartment building on Ballard Drive and sustained very serious injuries. Police said the shooting suspect, Raleigh Sizemore, was also shot, but is now in custody at the Madison County Detention Center.

By Wednesday night, Raleigh Sizemore, Gregory Ratliff, and Rita Creech were all under arrest in connection with the shooting.

Investigators said the chaos started with an attempted personal robbery just before 7 a.m. at the Gulf Station on Main Street. The victim was able to get away and gave police a description of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle.

That led the two officers to Ballard Street around 10:00 a.m. An arrest citation said the two officers knocked on the door of Gregory Ratliff's home, where they were looking for Raleigh Sizemore in relation to the robbery. Court documents said Ratliff let the officers in and told them he was home alone and that there were no guns in the home. According to the arrest citation, Ratliff later admitted both of those things were lies.

Officer Ellis is currently in critical condition.
