Texas Chief Dies After Being Shot in Face

Chief Darrell Allen died Tuesday after he was shot in the face and critically wounded on Nov. 1 during a struggle with a man while working security at a bar in Temple.

Law enforcement officers Wednesday morning were escorting the body of slain Marlin, TX, police Chief Darrell Allen, 43, back to Marlin from Dallas, where an autopsy was performed after Allen died Tuesday, reports KWTX.

Allen, who was shot in the face and critically wounded on Nov. 1 during a struggle with a man while working security at a bar in Temple, died at around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where he had been in critical condition since the shooting.

Funeral arrangements were pending Wednesday. Allen is survived by his wife and children.

Derrick Wayne Gamble, 24, remains in the Bell County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting, which occurred at around 1:15 a.m. Nov. 1 at the Laid Back Lounge II.

His bond is set at $750,000
