A Shreveport, La., police officer was shot and killed Wednesday night and law enforcement officers have a suspect in custody following a nearly 24-hour manhunt for the suspect.
According to police, Officer Thomas LaValley responded to the 3500 block of Del Rio Street around 9:15 p.m. for a call of a suspicious person making threats. Police say LaValley contacted the person and was shot multiple times in the upper body. He was later pronounced dead at University Health.
The suspect is identified as 27-year-old Grover Cannon. Cannon was already wanted for attempted second-degree murder, KSLA TV reports. He is accused of shooting 45-year-old Darren Williams back on July 15. Cannon is now facing charges of first-degree murder.
Multiple tips sent to Shreveport police suggested Cannon was in the 3800 block of Jackson Street. Police shut the road down and began an ultimately successful search.
Officer LaValley has been with the police department since February 2011.
