Authorities are searching for leads in a traffic stop turned dangerous when two suspects opened fire on a Phoenix police officer in west Phoenix, a police spokesman said.

According to Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Vince Lewis, the officer attempted to stop a white sedan that was traveling at an excessive rate of speed near 67th and Minnezona avenues at about 3 a.m. The vehicle's two unidentified occupants opened fire and fled the scene, Lewis said.
