A Columbus, Ohio, police officer’s car was hit by bullets on an east Columbus freeway Sunday around 3:15 a.m.

Police say Officer Kevin Schoppert was driving home in his personal car after finishing a special duty assignment.

They say a truck pulled up beside Schoppert’s car and fired several shots. Schoppert was not hit.

Police say the truck sped off and exited the freeway. It then crashed into several parked vehicles as cruisers tried to stop it.

Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Alphonso Reed. A handgun was found at the scene.
