Several first responders, including four police officers, were hospitalized Thursday when hazmat crews responded to a chemical suicide in Lowell, Mass., reports WCVB.

Crews were called to 47 Rock St. after the man, whom friends identified as Sean Patrick, 31, wrote comments on Facebook that were of concern to his friends. They said Patrick was upset over his marriage and custody of his children.

Investigators said they believed he mixed household cleaners to make hydrogen sulfide gas.

Four police officers, a Greater Lowell ALS paramedic, and two EMTs from Trinity Ambulance were exposed to chemical gases.

They were taken to local hospitals for possible respiratory issues, police said.
