California Officer Bitten by K-9, Shoots Dog

Officials say an officer went out there and was attacked by the dog. Details have not been released as to how the dog attacked him.

Tragedy struck the Richmond (Calif.) Police Department's K-9 Unit on Tuesday morning after an officer was forced to shoot a police dog.

It happened about 6:45 a.m. in the parking lot behind the police station on Regatta Blvd.

Officials say an officer went out there and was attacked by the dog. Details have not been released as to how the dog attacked him, KGO TV reports.

The officer's wounds have been treated at a local hospital. The K-9 is in critical condition at a veterinary hospital.
