Red Sox to Honor Police K-9 Units

The Boston Red Sox are teaming up with the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) Foundation to honor heroic K-9s and handlers.

In the first event of its kind in major league baseball, the Boston Red Sox are teaming up with the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) Foundation to honor heroic K-9 units.

The July 27th game, where the home team will face off against the White Sox, will open with a celebration of the six chosen K-9 heroes. During this time, the 2014 K-9 Hero of the year will be announced. Ballots may be cast for the K-9 of your choice at www.redsox/lawenforcement – where you'll find a picture of the pup and his or her handler with a short biography. Tickets may also be purchased on this site.

For every ticket purchased at www.redsox/lawenforcement, the Red Sox will donate $5.00 to the FLEOA Foundation – an organization created to financially assist FLEOA members and their families in times of need. Over the years the FLEOA Foundation has awarded hundreds of scholarships and thousands of dollars to federal law enforcement officers and their families, and the proceeds from this game will go toward this fund.

The FLEOA Foundation will also be offering a one-of-a-kind challenge coin of a police K-9 on top of a home plate, encircled with words such as courage and honor for sale at $15.00 apiece, through the FLEOA's online store at www.fleoa.org. The challenge coin will be available for sale online approximately one week after the July 27th game. A free coin will be given to those purchasing tickets through the website. Funds generated from the sale of the challenge coins go directly to the FLEOA Foundation for future charitable requests.

FLEOA will also host a pre-game social from 4-6 pm at the Game On Restaurant, located at 82 Lansdowne Street, Boston, Mass., BP: (617) 351-7001. Members of the press are invited to mingle and meet the K-9 units and other FLEOA members.
