A North Miami Beach (Fla.) PD officer serving a search warrant for a fraud case was shot twice just before dawn Friday morning, reports the Miami Herald.

Officer Lino Diaz, 47, was shot in the arm and in the leg, and was scheduled for surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Police and city leaders said the injuries were not life-threatening.

Diaz, a decorated officer who has been with North Miami Beach since 1998, was serving a search warrant at a home at 16033 NE 8th Avenue as part of a joint federal investigation into unemployment fraud when he came under fire.

Once Diaz was whisked to safety, North Miami Beach police surrounded the house with sharpshooters and armored vehicles. Negotiators eventually talked the man and woman inside out of the home.
