After years of planning, development, and construction, the Gilbert-Chandler joint holding facility in Arizona opened for business December 1, 2014. This new jail is a collaborative effort between the Gilbert Police Department and the Chandler Police Department, designed to increase efficiency, better utilize resources, and save money.

This facility will provide Chandler and Gilbert police officers an alternative to the Maricopa County 4th Avenue jail when they need to book prisoners. Both departments will realize personnel and fuel cost savings as well as eliminating fees charged by the County for housing prisoners in their facility. Detention officers from the Gilbert and Chandler Police Departments will staff and manage the 24-hour facility.
