Longtime Ball, La., officer Carl Bordelon died of an apparent heart attack while working his overnight shift, town officials said Saturday.
The body of Bordelon, 51, who rose from patrolman to assistant police chief in 20 years with the department was discovered inside Town Hall on Saturday morning. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, officials said.
Bordelon was assigned to the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift. A family member saw him on patrol around 2:30 a.m. the TownTalk reports.
Bordelon was scheduled to marry longtime girlfriend Alicia Leggett on March 28. Other survivors include two sons, Christopher and Jacob. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Rush Funeral Home in Pineville.
