A Covington County (Ala.) Sheriff's deputy who was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning is being identified as Dep. William Heath Kelley, according to Alabama State Troopers, reports WSFA-TV.

Troopers say Kelley was killed while on duty when his patrol car and another vehicle crashed around 7:40 a.m. on Alabama Highway 55. The crash was near the intersection of Hwy. 55 and South Bypass.

The driver of the second vehicle, a white SUV, was also transported to an area hospital with injuries that are described as non-life-threatening.

Kelley was en route to a report of a crash with injuries and an overturned vehicle when he lost control and crashed his unit.

ODMP.org reports that the deputy's cruiser hydroplaned.
