An NYPD detective was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after an early morning shooting involving his partner, reports CBS New York.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Police Detective Jay Poggi, 58, was arraigned on a criminal complaint charging him with driving while intoxicated. His license was suspended Thursday.

According to the criminal complaint, Poggi had taken out his Smith and Wesson revolver to show the weapon’s hammer to his partner, Detective Matthew Sullivan, when the gun went off and a bullet hit Sullivan in the right wrist.

Poggi then allegedly drove Sullivan to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was observed to have bloodshot eyes.
