The man accused of opening fire on officers in the front lobby of the LAPD’s West Traffic Division earlier this month died Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to KTLA-TV, Daniel Christoph Yealu, 29, died in the hospital around 2 a.m., Officer Drake Madison of LAPD Media Relations said.

Yealu allegedly walked into the West Traffic Division lobby in Mid-City on the night of April 7, said he had a complaint, and then opened fire on two desk officers, according to police.

An unidentified officer was shot and injured. He and a female desk officer returned fire, critically wounding Yealu, who was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center following the shooting, according to police.
