A Brentwood, N.H., patrol officer was killed Monday afternoon responding to a domestic disturbance in a seniors community. Shortly after the officer was shot, the home was set ablaze and it exploded.

Authorities say Officer Steven Arkell was shot as he entered a duplex where a man lived with his father. A second officer also tried to enter the home but was driven back by gunfire.

The Attorney General's Office has identified the suspected shooter as Michael Nolan, 47. It is believed he died in the blaze. A third person whose identity was not released was taken from the scene to a local hospital.

Arkell, 48, was a part-time officer. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters. The governor has ordered flags be flown at half staff in his honor.

Neighbors told WLNE TV the elder Nolan is in his 80's, friendly, and outgoing. As for the suspected shooter, they say he tended to stay indoors.
