A New York State trooper was killed by a collision on Interstate 81 in Broome County on Thursday afternoon, state police said.
A suspect in the killing of the trooper was apprehended as of 1:40 p.m., an officer in the Sidney police barracks told the Syracuse Post-Standard.
Shortly after 12 p.m. Thursday, crews were called to an accident just north of exit 6 on 81 North, dispatchers told WBNG TV.
Broome County Sheriff's Deputies on the scene said a gray Nissan Altima and an Orange Pontiac Aztec were hit by a white truck. The white truck then fled the scene, according to deputies. The Nissan was a rental car.
