A gun battle in Chester, Pa., left a suspect dead and a police officer wounded early Monday morning.

An officer and his partner were responding to a domestic violence call in the area of 12th and Culhane streets around 3:30 a.m. Chester's Deputy Police Commission Otis Blair told NBC 10  that the officers knocked on the door. The armed suspect answered the door and opened fire, triggering a gunfight.

A patrol officer in his mid-30s was hit once. The suspect, Frank McQueen, a 34-year-old man from Philadelphia, was hit multiple times, said Blair.

The officer, a 10-year veteran of the force, was treated for a gunshot wound to the lower left side of his body and released about five hours later, said police.
