Columbus Officer Found Dead in Property Room, Suicide Suspected

Columbus, Ohio, police are investigating the death of a police officer from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday at the police property room on the South Side.

Columbus, Ohio, police are investigating the death of a police officer from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday at the police property room on the South Side, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Police summoned Columbus fire paramedics at 5:20 p.m. to the Police Division’s property room. Paramedics pronounced the officer dead at 5:29 p.m., the Columbus Fire Division reported.

The officer was identified as Kevin D. Myers, 46, a 22-year veteran of the force who worked in the Crime Scene Search Unit. Police said Myers used a personal gun, not one of the hundreds that are kept at the property room while cases are pending.

Detectives on the team that handles police-involved shootings are handling the investigation.
