Officers in New Jersey, New York City, and Westchester County, N.Y., can now buy special badges from Smith & Warren with the logo of Super Bowl XLVIII (48), which is scheduled for Feb. 2 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Smith & Warren’s Lee Galperin says that once an eligible agency approves wearing of the Super Bowl badge, officers from that agency can purchase the badge through a special Website. The URL for the Website is only given to participating agencies. Super Bowl badges range in price from $89.99 to $124.99. Officers also must sign a legal agreement saying they will never sell the badges, and the badges are shipped only to participating agencies. The Super Bowl badges can only be worn Jan. 1 through two weeks after the game.

Smith & Warren has been offering the Super Bowl badges for three years now through a special licensing agreement with the NFL, according to Galperin who says the program is very popular. Some 4,000 badges have been purchased for Super Bowl XLVIII. And all 300 officers of the N.J. Transit Police Department plan to use the badges during the Super Bowl festivities.

“That’s what the NFL wants fans to experience,” says Galperin. “They want the host area to be transformed into Super Bowl USA.”
