A prisoner stole an unmarked Milan, N.M., police officer’s vehicle Sunday when she was left in it and slipped out of her handcuffs, according to the New Mexico State Police.
Bridget Romero, 27, was handcuffed in the back seat of the unit when she managed to get her hands free, enter the front of the vehicle and drive away, police told the Albuquerque Journal.
The vehicle, a 2013 white Ford Taurus, was found later Sunday but Romero was not.
Multiple law enforcement agencies—local and federal—reportedly responded to the incident, and Aurora Police now say five officers were shot and wounded in the incident that left five workers at the business and the gunman dead. The injured officers are reportedly stable.
