A young man in Missouri has been awarded $6.5 million in a lawsuit filed over an incident in September 2014 that nearly ended his life.
A law enforcement source told the Jersey Journal that 50-year-old Michael Dillon of the Jersey City (NJ) Police Department had been at a police holiday party Thursday night and is suspected of driving drunk.
For years, police officers with the Paradise (CA) Police Department have participated in the "Shop with a Cop" campaign, affording less fortunate citizens the opportunity to put holiday gifts beneath the Christmas tree. This year, roles have been reversed.
"You’re welcome," the letter began. "I’d like to believe that you were minutes away from creating an unspeakable Christmas tragedy when I stopped you. If not only killing yourself, you were well on your way to killing some innocent person who was minding their own business doing nothing else wrong but being in front of you."
Some of the personal objects officers report carrying on duty are sentimental in nature, but the majority of the "extra stuff" that they carry is duty gear that was personally purchased because the department did not issue it.
