Dallas Officer Wounded in Weekend Shootout

A Dallas police officer was in stable condition Sunday night after he was shot three times Saturday afternoon while responding to a disturbance in far northeast Dallas, police say.

A Dallas police officer was in stable condition Sunday night after he was shot three times Saturday afternoon while responding to a disturbance in far northeast Dallas, police say.

The man accused of wounding Officer Joshua Burns turned himself in at Dallas police headquarters several hours later as officers conducted an intensive manhunt for him, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The suspect, Rakeem Perkins, also was hospitalized Saturday night with a wound he suffered in the shootout.

The 30-year-old officer was at Baylor University Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
