Agent Slain During Undercover Arms Purchase

Authorities said Correa was taking part in an operation in the Antón Ruiz sector of Humacao when gunfire erupted shortly before 8 p.m. Monday.

A police officer was slain and another wounded in a gun battle in Humacao, Puerto Rico that also left an alleged suspect dead, reports Caribbean Business News.

The officer killed in the line of duty was identified as Joaquín Correa Ortega, 36, of the Puerto Rico Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Division.

Authorities said Correa was taking part in an operation in the Antón Ruiz sector of Humacao when gunfire erupted shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. He died at the scene.

Three men were arrested in connection with the case on Tuesday.
