Albuquerque K-9 Recovering from Gunshot Wounds

The burglary suspect was found dead shortly after the shooting, but Albuquerque PD spokesperson told the Albuquerque Journal that none of its officers had discharged their weapons during the incident.

An Albuquerque Police K-9 that was shot three times by a burglary suspect Friday has been released from the vet and is recovering at the home of his owner.

APD K-9 Rico was shot in the head and neck when he and his handler responded to a 4 a.m. burglary call at a northeast Albuquerque towing yard.

The burglary suspect was found dead shortly after the shooting, but Albuquerque PD spokesperson told the Albuquerque Journal that none of its officers had discharged their weapons during the incident.

Rico is a 4-year-old Belgian malinois.
