Detroit Police Radio System Crashes Again

The Detroit Police Department's communications system crashed and remained inoperable for much of the day Tuesday, marking the second time this summer the system has failed.

Police officials were able to get the system operational by 7 p.m. Tuesday and 911 calls weren't affected. EMS and fire communications were also affected, reports the Detroit Free Press.

The failure occurred when corrupt data made its way into the system during an upgrade by Motorola Solutions, Chief James Craig told reporters. Motorola announced it was working with the Michigan Public Safety Commission System to address the issue.

In July, the system went down for 15 hours.
