Officer Steve Horgan, a 27-year veteran, became instantly recognizeable when he raised his arms as the ball and Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter came bounding into the bullpen in the eighth inning at Fenway Park. The home run allowed the Red Sox to tie the game 5-5 and win it an inning later on a walk-off single from Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Officer Horgan, 50, came close to catching the home-run bal. The officer realized Hunter may have injured himself on the play and quickly called for help. A Tigers trainer came running from the dugout.

The officer promised not to shave off the beard he began growing when the Red Sox began postseason play.
