Three Boynton Beach (Fla.) PD police officers shot at and injured a 25-year-old man Friday night after the man dragged one of the officers with his car while fleeing, The Palm Beach Post reports.

The officers — Christopher Munro, Daniel Griswold, and Cory Gray — are on paid administrative leave while the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigates the shooting, which took place during a DUI saturation patrol in Royal Palm Beach.

John D. Flanagan of Royal Palm Beach now faces charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Officers stopped Flanagan at the DUI checkpoint and one officer said he smelled marijuana. Flanagan reportedly decided to flee while his door was still open, trapping two officers between the door and the car as he reversed the vehicle.

Munro was dragged until the car changed direction, sustaining minor injuries. The other officer was able to free himself. Officers then fired at Flanagan, who was shot in the leg and stopped his car.
