Pennsylvania troopers helped a hospital security guard save the life of a patient who attempted to throw himself off a parking garage.

The patient had just been discharged from the emergency department Sunday when he climbed onto the medical center's third-story parking garage, WFMZ reports.

Scott Reeser, a Reading Hospital security officer, noticed the man sitting on the edge of the structure and headed to the scene. When the patient closed his eyes and fell backwards, Reeser grabbed him by the shirt to keep the patient from falling.

Three Pennsylvania State Police troopers arrived on the scene. One Trooper talked to the patient while another approached him from behind to save the man from falling.

The patient was held for observation after the rescue, and has since been released.
