Oregon's Board of Education voted on Friday to allow University of Oregon police officers to carry guns.

The vote was unanimous, reports the Associated Press. Until recently, the state's public universities weren't allowed to have police departments. That changed in 2011 when university officials requested the law be changed.

None of the other public universities in the state have requested to create an armed law enforcement agency.

The university's officers will start carrying firearms in the fall.
