The Granbury (Texas) Police officer who was wounded in a shootout with a wanted sex offender left the hospital Monday afternoon.

Officer Chad Davis was shot in the upper right arm during the gun battle with Ricky Don McCommas shortly after the suspect fatally wounded a Hood County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Lance McLean. A rifle round went through the top of Davis' arm and out his back, reports WFAA.

Granbury Police Chief Mitch Galvan praised Officer Davis, saying he drew the gunman's attention away from civilians in the line of fire. The officer "moved away and the suspect started coming toward him, and that's when everybody started engaging [the suspect] and he started engaging the officers," Galvan said.

During the search of McCommas' home following the shootings, authorities found 24 weapons, including pistols, rifles, a shotgun, a homemade silencer, 20,000 rounds of ammunition, and badges for an Alvarado PD dispatcher, Johnson County dispatcher, and emergency coordinator, reports CBS DFW.
