A Miami-Dade Police detective on Wednesday testified about a nearly fatal attack three years ago when a cinderblock hurled from a building roof smashed his head.

Detective Carlos Castillo, 40, showed jurors a long straight scar from his chest to his belly as visible proof of the nearly fatal April 2010 attack. Since the attack, Castillo has lost the ability to smell and lost much of the strength in his right hand that he often can't turn the key to his car.

Castillo testified in the trial of Michael Robertson, 36, who is accused of throwing the cinderblock at the detective, kicking the officer, stealing his police Dodge Charger, and running over his body, reports the Miami Herald.
