The suspect charged with killing a well-respected Virginia State Police trooper would face the death penalty if convicted of the crime, a Dinwiddie County prosecutor said Friday, reports the Washington Post.

Russell Ervin Brown, 28, has been charged with capital muder, two felony firearms counts, and attempted captial murder for exchanging gunfire with a trooper who came to the aide of Master Trooper Junius Walker.

Walker, a 35-year veteran, was shot and killed Thursday on the side of Interstate 85. A memorial service for Walker is scheduled for Tuesday, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
