Detroit SWAT Cop Faces Charges In 7-Year-Old's Death

A Detroit SWAT officer who shot and killed a 7-year-old girl during a raid while accompanied by a reality TV crew appeared in court to face charges.

A Detroit SWAT officer who shot and killed a 7-year-old girl during a raid while accompanied by a reality TV crew appeared in court Friday to face charges.

Officer Joseph Weekley has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and careless discharge of a firearm causing death. Aiyana Jones was fatally shot during the May 16, 2010 incident.

Allison Howard, an employee of the show, is charged with perjury related to the investigation that followed for "withholding video footage crucial to the investigation," reports MLive.

Aiyana's father, Charles Jones, has been charged with first-degree murder, perjury, firearm possession by a felon and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Officers also arrested Chauncey Owens, the boyfriend of one of Aiyana's relatives. Owens was found in the upstairs apartment. He is charged with first- and second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony use of a firearm in commission of a crime.
