A Raritan Borough (N.J.) Police officer has accused the leaders of a small central New Jersey town of discriminating against her after she became pregnant.

Officer Kathleen Sausa, 42, claims she was targeted by town officials after announcing she was pregnant with twins in 2011, reports My Central Jersey.

Mayor Jo-Ann Liptak allegedly told Sausa her pregnancy was "a questionable choice" and refused to perform a civil union betwen the lesbian officer and her partner, according to the lawsuit.

Sausa was hired as the department's first female officer in 2005.
