A Thurston County (Wash.) Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man who advanced toward a fellow deputy swinging a pool cue toward his head, reports the Olympian.

The shooting occurred at about 2:30 Friday at a Littlerock home where deputies had tracked a suspect in a grocery store robbery.

The deputy shot the 26-year-old man before he could strike a second deputy who had detained his mother.
