A bank robbery suspect led Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies in a high-speed pursuit Friday that ended with a deadly shootout on a Lancaster cul-de-sac.
The hour-long police pursuit began after police and sheriff's deputies spotted a dark SUV connected to the morning robbery of a Bank of America branch in Saugus.
The SUV driver pulled off the freeway after officers used a spike strip, and stopped after officers surrounded the vehicle. The suspect exited the SUV, appeared to surrender, and then opened fire on deputies, who shot and killed him, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The incident was broadcast live on Southern California television.
