Conn. Cop Critically Injured In Chase

A Stamford (Conn.) Police officer was critically injured after falling 20 feet from a bridge abutment while chasing a robbery suspect in Norwalk early Thursday morning, police said.

A Stamford (Conn.) Police officer was critically injured after falling 20 feet from a bridge abutment while chasing a robbery suspect in Norwalk early Thursday morning, police said.

Troy Strauser, a 39-year-old patrol officer, is "lucky to be alive," after being treated at Norwalk Hospital for several critical injuries, Chief Robert Nivakoff said.

Nivakoff, who spent several hours at the hospital after the incident, said Strauser was in critical condition in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit after undoing emergency surgery. The officer, a married father of three who lives in Fairfield, has severe injuries to his face and right arm.
