New Bedford (Mass.) Police officers fired two fatal volleys at a 15-year-old who attacked and stabbed a detective, authorities said during a Friday press conference covered by South Coast Today.

Shortly after 8:40 p.m. Thursday, New Bedford PD's Detective Tyson Barnes, 34, and a second officer encountered Malcolm Gracia and another male in the Temple Landing housing development.

After Gracia stabbed detective Barnes multiple times, Gracia was shot several times by officers and fell to the ground. Gracia got up, ignored commands to drop the knife, and was hit by a second volley of rounds from officers.
