A Pawtucket (R.I.) Police officer testified that a police chief handed him stolen money and told him to go spend it in Las Vegas and not say anything about it, reports the Boston Globe.

Officer John Brown, a 28-year veteran, said North Providence Police Colonel John J. Whiting handed him $714. The chief is accused of stealing the money from a stripper's SUV that he had pursued.

Prosecutors allege that Whiting also approached Pawtucket Police Chief Paul King and asked him to cover up the theft.
