VIDEO: Suicidal Calif. Teacher's Pursuit, Crash

A Los Angeles teacher accused of lewd acts with a 14-year-old girl led officers on a lengthy pursuit Tuesday that ended when his truck went airborne and crashed into a child-care center.

The pursuit began just after 12:30 p.m. when Bell Police detectives approached Kip Arnold, a physical education teacher at Southeast Middle School in South Gate, at his Lakewood home. After detectives approached Arnold's pick-up, the teacher said, "I'm not stopping, I'm suicidal," reports the Los Angeles Times.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department joined the pursuit of the driver, who led officers onto the 405 and 10 freeways. The pursuit continued along Pacific Coast Highway through Torrance, where officers tried a PIT maneuver, reports KTLA.

Arnold continued into Rancho Palos Verdes, where his truck left the road and plunged down an embankment. The vehicle crashed at about 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters extricated Arnold from the vehicle. A C.H.P. officer was injured during the pursuit, when his vehicle struck a tree, reports KCAL.
