A veteran Los Angeles Police detective has been accused of stealing the property of a drug suspect, while serving an arrest warrant Friday, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Det. Ramon Alvarez, a 27-year LAPD veteran, was arrested after a fellow detective saw him take money from a suspected narcotics location. The detective reported it, and Alvarez was arrested after his vehicle was searched.

"The arrest of an LAPD Officer and a classmate is shocking and very disappointing," said Tyler Izen, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), in a statement. "We expect law enforcement officers to hold themselves to the highest moral standards in their professional and personal lives, making the news doubly upsetting."
