A "super deputy" with the Monongalia County (W.Va.) County Sheriff's Department died in a crash at the end of a pursuit with a suspected drunk driver early Saturday, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Sgt. Michael May, 41, died in the crash just north of the Pennsylvania-West Virginia line. Pennsylvania State Police arrested Jerod A. Green, 35, of Morgantown, W.Va., on suspicion of homicide by vehicle.

For the past 10 years, Sgt. May worked for Monongalia County, most recently on a midnight shift.

"He was a super deputy," said Lt. Perry Palmer, a 21-year veteran of the Monongalia department. "Probably one of the best that we have."
