Fla. Deputy Fatally Shot After Pursuit

A female Brevard County (Fla.) Sheriff's deputy was fatally shot Tuesday morning in Melbourne while investigating a motel burglary. The deputy has been identified by ODMP as Barbara Pill.

At about 11 a.m., deputies responded to a report that two suspects were stealing furniture from the Melbourne Econo Lodge at the intersection of John Rodes Boulevard and Silver Heron Drive.

Deputy Pill spotted the suspects and chased their vehicle until the drove into a ditch. Shots were fired and the deputy was hit in the face. The suspects were apprehended after the shooting, reports WOFL.
