A Montgomery County (Md.) Police Department officer committed suicide after leading a Maryland trooper on a high-speed pursuit on Monday.

The trooper pulled over Jed R. Bylsma, 30, on westbound U.S. 50 in Talbot County about 1:30 a.m., for speeding. Bylsma identified himself as an officer but showed signs of intoxication, reports the Baltimore Sun.

After Bylsma fled, troopers pursued him until they caught up with his vehicle, which had stopped after a successful deployment of stop sticks. They found him unresponsive with a handgun near his hand. Bylsma had been on administrative leave for about one year, police told 9News Now.
