Ill. Deputy Exonerated In Off-Duty Pizza Parlor Shooting

The Winnebago County (Ill.) Sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a pizza-parlor robber and wounded three of his accomplices has been cleared by a grand jury.

The Winnebago County (Ill.) Sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a pizza-parlor robber and wounded three of his accomplices has been cleared by a grand jury.

Deputy Frank Pobjecky, 29, acted within departmental policies during the incident, according to the Thursday ruling. The deputy is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq and joined the sheriff's department about 3 1/2 years ago.

Michael Sago, 16, was killed in the Oct. 1 incident. The other three men shot have been indicted on counts of first-degree felony murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
