Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy has restored the star to an officer who was allegedly slain by her grandson so she can be buried with a badge, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Officer Hester Scott was stripped of her powers in 2007 after her grandson, who is now charged with her murder, accused her of abuse. Child welfare authorities found no basis for the abuse accusation. But the department's Independent Police Review Authority launched its own investigation. Scott was placed on desk duty until its completion, which is still pending.
