With a $72 million budget shortfall staring Los Angeles city leaders in the face, the mayor's office is proposing a new round of cutbacks, including a $4 million reduction to the Los Angeles Police Department.

City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana, budget advisor to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the City Council, released a financial status report calling for nearly two dozen city agencies to absorb $21 million in reductions, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Specific cuts to police services haven't yet been proposed.
