The San Carlos man fatally shot by a San Francisco Police officer last week was a two-strike offender who wanted to avoid jail, reports the San Francisco Examiner.
Steven Michael Young, 33, was stopped by officers at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday for a vehicle registration check. Instead of handing over his license, Young took off running. During the foot pursuit, he fired six rounds from his .32-caliber handgun. An officer returned fire, hitting him twice in the face.
Chief Greg Suhr briefed the public about the officer-involved shooting during a Monday town-hall meeting.
