New Line Cinema has picked a reserve police officer to direct a new "Police Academy" and reboot the popular 1980s spoofs about a ragtag group of recruits called on to save the city.

Scott Zabielski, a reserve officer in West Hollywood, will attempt to revive a franchise with seven entries from 1984 to 1994, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The police spoofs initially starred Steve Guttenberg as Mahoney, the leader of the group. The most recent entry was "Mission to Moscow."
