American Gunsmithing Institute has released a DVD course covering Smith & Wesson's M&P semi-auto pistol, which has become a popular sidearm for law enforcement officers.

Robert "Bob" Dunlap, an AGI instructor and master gunsmith, leads the course and uses a "cut-away" model to identify parts and internal workings. He also demonstrates proper cleaning and lubrication to better explain the unique design and function of the handgun. Dunlap covers the intricacies of civilian versions, as well as the M&P model .45 with thumb safety that has been mandated by the military and several law enforcement agencies.

Dunlap covers the history of polymer guns, beginning with the Glock and Smith & Wesson's response — the Sigma. He covers the origins of the "M&P" name and concept. He discusses certain aspects of the handgun.

Dunlap also explains and demonstrates the importance of proper disassembly, cleaning and lubrication to keep an S&W M&P in top-performance condition. Dunlap reassembles the pistol while demonstrating certain key areas to watch for potential problems.
